International Women’s Day Chess Tournament

Celebrating Girls & Women in Chess

On March 8th, we proudly hosted a special International Women’s Day Chess Tournament at Oakville Public Library, bringing together girls and women from our chess community for an afternoon filled with learning, laughter, and inspiring games.

The event was a great success. Players of different ages and experience levels came together to enjoy friendly competition in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Over five exciting rounds, participants showed focus, creativity, and sportsmanship while building new friendships and strengthening their confidence over the board.

It was especially meaningful to see mothers joining the tournament alongside our students. This unique mix created a warm community spirit and highlighted how chess can connect generations.

Beyond the results, the true goal of the event was achieved — celebrating the important role of girls and women in chess and encouraging continued participation in the game. The positive energy in the room, the smiles after each game, and the supportive atmosphere made the afternoon truly memorable.

A special thank-you goes to organizer Ivana Markovic and to all participants and families who helped make this celebration so successful.

We are already looking forward to many more events that promote inclusion, confidence, and the joy of chess.
